“Assessing this situation, experts agree – in Latvia next week it should be mandatory to use masks in public transport. I will take this proposal to the government for review, and it would be the first step in reviewing the restrictive conditions, ”said Vickele.

The Minister also noted: “We have also learned from the summer that such state closure measures should no longer be applied. However, their impact on public sentiment and economic activity is very serious. What we will continue to do is, under the guidance of experts, apply the strictness of the restrictive rules that experts believe are needed right now, without exaggerating them.

The most important task is to maintain full-time educational opportunities for children for as long as possible, and this will be accompanied by a review of restrictions, if necessary in addition to these mouth and nose covers. ”

CONTEXT:

Cumulative indicator of Covid-19 morbidity in Latvia in the last two weeks exceeded the threshold of 23 cases for the first time. So far, the highest rate was observed on April 6, and there were just over 20 cases.

According to the color coding system, Latvia, which has always been on the green list, is now starting to approach the color of the orange warning.

September 29 in Latvia openly another 95 cases of Covid-19, which is the largest number of cases detected in one day in Latvia since the beginning of the pandemic. Taking into account the news of local outbreaks in Kuldiga and Daugavpils, the government decided on 30 September impose more stringent precautions for Covid-19 in the territories of both cities, determined from 1 to 14 October.
