George Kent commented on the lack of communication between Biden and Zelensky
The call must be backed up by action, the State Department noted, speaking of the need for reforms in Ukraine.
US President Joe Biden has yet to call Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy because “the call must be backed up by action.” This was stated by US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State George Kent in a commentary to the publication Voice of America.
Kent, who is in charge of US policy towards Ukraine, expects a conversation between Biden and Zelensky in the near future.
“It is important to understand: the call, given its symbolism, must be supported by actions … We want Ukraine to achieve success … But for this success there must be the right actions and the right reforms,” he said.
When asked how the President of Ukraine and his administration, according to Kent, cope with their obligations, the Deputy Assistant to the Head of the State Department replied: “I would say that the most important thing is that President Zelensky fulfills the priorities and his promises that he made the Ukrainian people, because it was they who chose him. ” Kent recalled that Zelensky and his party came to power promising reforms and change to Ukrainians.
Earlier in the United States, it was believed that lack of negotiations may be related to anti-corruption problems in Ukraine.
Later at the US Embassy in Ukraine promised that the conversation would take place without any conditions from the White House.
