One of the main problems for disruptive transportation companies, like Uber, is making their businesses effectively profitable.

But thanks to the intervention of the US government, this could be a challenge from the past. The US federal administration has just offered a contract to Uber and Lyft for the amount of $ 810,000,000.

The transaction between Uber, Lyft and the Government was finalized by the General Services Administration (GSA). According to Veronica Suarez, Lyft’s vice president of government and social business, the contract will be for five years. In theory, all workers in public institutions will use the service.

Could a new future be drawn for Uber and Lyft?

This news is in addition to other predatory practices, such as the one carried out in California through Proposition 22, in which they invested 200 million to make workers precarious and bypass the AB5 Law.

This legislation will allow transportation companies to keep their drivers self-employed, denying them sick leave, minimum wage and unemployment benefit.

Remember that both Uber and Lyft are losing billions each quarter, even more in the wake of the coronavirus crisis. But even before the pandemic, Uber has failed to pin its numbers in the black.
