The Food and Drug Administration (FDA, for its acronym in English) of USA announced this Friday the authorization for the booster dose of coronavirus vaccines from Pfizer and Modern for all adults 18 and older, a decision that had already been made at the state and local level.

The FDA has determined that currently available data supports a booster dose of Moderna and Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccines for individuals 18 years of age and older.“Said one of the directors of the FDA, Dr. Peter Marks.

FDA clearance is given two days after Modern will request it to start the third dose of his vaccine, while in the case of Pfizer It was a week ago when he presented a clinical trial in which the extra injection was effective for more than 10,000 people who participated in the study.

Despite the concern over the swift approval in the case of Modern, the main person in charge of the fight against the pandemic in the United States, Dr. Anthony Fauci, has reassured public opinion by showing that studies show no signs that the potential risks outweigh the benefits.

Hours after the FDA decision, the advisory committee of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has voted unanimously to recommend a booster dose of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for all adults.

With this, the CDC intends to end the confusion that had arisen among some of those vaccinated, who They did not know if they had the necessary conditions to be eligible for this additional dose, and to simplify the process, as explained by one of the committee members, Dr. Oliver Brooks.

While waiting for the FDA and CDC to rule, during the past week, already some state governments and that of several American cities chose not to wait and approve a third dose booster for all adults over the age of 18, says NBC.

As new coronavirus cases continue to rise in the United States, with more than 30 percent of its population with not even one dose, the Moderna and Pfizer booster injections may begin six months after the second, including those that were vaccinated with Johnson & Johnson. So far, more than 31 million people in the United States have received a third booster dose, according to the CDC.
