The US addresses the issue of waiting time to obtain an appointment at CBP One

Joe Biden’s administration has dedicated itself to answering the most frequent questions related to the asylum appointment program that are scheduled through the CBP One application, one of the most common questions being related to long waiting times.

In that sense, the United States government explained that the number of requests exceeds the system by far.

According to an official from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the program began with the capacity to process 1,000 applications a day, adding 250 more, or later, another 200, with which 1,450 cases are currently being attended to. .

This allows us to handle more than 40,000 requests per month, but even that is not enough to satisfy the demand of people seeking to request an appointment for an interview with a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer on the country’s southern border.

According to official figures, more than two-thirds of those 40,000 applicants manage to obtain an appointment in less than eight weeks, something that has been possible thanks to the adoption of modern technologies that allow large amounts of information to be handled more efficiently.

In that sense, four or five times more cases are now being treated per day than in the previous decade, which is why authorities have urged migrants to be patient with waiting times.

The Biden administration notes that, although significant improvements have been made in recent months, there are still limitations and challenges that the system must face.

Additionally, the US government emphasizes that not all applications will end in an appointment, and that having an appointment does not guarantee entry to US territory. This is because the process includes a rigorous analysis of each case separately, and officials are the ones who will determine each person’s eligibility.

Steps to use the CBP One application

• To schedule an appointment, you must download the CBP One app on a mobile device. The app is available on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
• Once the app is downloaded, you must create an account, which involves providing basic personal information and setting up your access credentials such as username and password.
• Once in the application, you must search and select the option related to the asylum appointment program or any other category of service that is needed.
• The appointment request form will need to be completed, including entering details such as the person’s name, nationality, reason for seeking asylum and any other relevant information.
• The next step is to attach the necessary documents, this could include identification, travel documents and evidence of the situation that motivates the asylum request.
• Once all the fields have been completed and the required documents have been attached, the application must be submitted.
• After sending the request, the interested party must wait for a response from the authorities. The system will notify you about the status of the request and, if approved, will provide details about the appointment.
• If the application is accepted, you must prepare to attend on the date, time and place indicated by the notification. You must bring all necessary documents and anything else that CBP has requested.
