The UOC celebrates 25 years with its own model

The Open University of Catalonia was born in 1995 with its own learning model. 25 years later, the UOC has become a benchmark for online learning and has been ranked among the 150 best universities youth in the world and the best online university in Ibero-America, according to Times Higher Education.

The UOC has 73,500 students in 134 countries and 85,700 graduates. TOIt currently offers 25 degrees, 54 university masters, 8 doctorates and 295 own master’s degrees, postgraduate degrees and specializations. The official offer, accredited by quality agencies, is complemented by 396 seminars, language courses, professional training courses, free subjects and MOOCs. As a global university with a remote learning model, the UOC prepares students to face the challenges of global citizenship.

It is a «training offer that is adapts to lifelong learning needs, accredited by quality agencies and that it follows the standards of the European university system ”, explains the UOC’s Vice-Rector for Teaching and Learning. Carles Sigalés.

Extended offer

By 2021, it offers three new grades: the expected degree in Primary Education, the degree in Digital Interaction Techniques and Multimedia and the degree in English Techniques for Software Development. The offer of University Master’s degrees is also expanded with the University Master’s Degree in Contemporary World History and the Master’s Degree in Planetary Health.

The UOC has a learning model that puts the student at the center and that seeks constant improvement of their skills, accompanying them at all times with the experience of the teaching staff. Is about an educational model that is constantly evolving thanks to the eLearn Center, an online learning innovation center created in 2009 to promote continuous improvement and evolution of the educational model.

In times of pandemic, this experience has contributed to the adaptation to the online environment of more than 9,000 teachers from schools, institutes and universities. The UOC faculty gave 24 open webinars to cooperate with the group of teachers to finish the last year in a non-face-to-face way.
