The United States adds 3,927 deaths from covid-19 in a single day

Washington, Dec 30 (EFE) .- The United States this Wednesday reached 19,715,899 confirmed cases and 341,845 deaths from covid-19, according to the independent count from Johns Hopkins University.

This balance at 20:00 local time (01:00 GMT on Thursday) is 3,927 more deaths than on Tuesday and 189,671 new infections.

New York State remains the worst hit in the country by the pandemic with 37,868 deaths, followed by Texas (27,895), California (25,357), Florida (21,550) and New Jersey (19,109).

Other states with a large death toll include Illinois (17,811), Pennsylvania (15,780), Michigan (13,018), Massachusetts (12,338) and Georgia (10,846).

In terms of infections, California has 2,267,290, followed by Texas with 1,759,036, third is Florida with 1,306,123, New York is fourth with 998,524 and Illinois fifth with 955,380.

The provisional death toll -341,845- far exceeds the lower limit of the initial estimates of the White House, which projected in the best of cases between 100,000 and 240,000 deaths due to the pandemic.

US President Donald Trump lowered those estimates and was confident that the final figure would rather be between 50,000 and 60,000 deaths, although later he predicted up to 110,000 deaths, a number that has also been exceeded.

For its part, the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluations (IHME) of the University of Washington, whose models for predicting the evolution of the pandemic are often set by the White House, calculates that when Trump leaves power next 20 420,000 people will have died by January 1 and 560,000 by April 1.
