The UK wants to allow self-driving cars from 2025, the manufacturer holds – IT Pro – News accountable

Wait a minute, the citizen / pedestrian has to make sure why a car company sends this kind of thing to the street

And what about the normal cars that a manufacturer now sells and then sends to the street? They may also have a design flaw that puts others (e.g. pedestrians) at additional risk. I don’t see the difference. Ultimately, it’s all (WA) insured.

And you, as a pedestrian at the end of the line, will probably run less risk of an accident in a city with autonomous vehicles than in a city with non-autonomous vehicles. I think most pedestrians would prefer to live in that former city, even if an autonomous vehicle occasionally encounters a pedestrian.

I hope that the manufacturer makes sure or rather ensures that the risk of accidents is minimal, regardless of the cost

See my commentary on the city with autonomous vehicles and the city with non-autonomous vehicles above. As soon as the risks of accidents with autonomous vehicles are significantly (say 10 times) lower than with non-autonomous vehicles, it is socially desirable for everyone to move in an autonomous car, even if the risk is not yet minimal. ‘Regardless of the cost’ sounds good, but it’s unrealistic. There are other things that money should be spent on as well. Each euro can only be spent once. As soon as it’s good enough, or better than the alternative, we’ll change.

Are you willing to pay 100,000 euros instead of 50,000 euros for a 2% safer car? No. Pay attention to costs too. There are many people who drive a small economy car who know how to be less safe than the fat SUV driving next to them. Yet they don’t drive a big SUV …
