The Truth About Vaccines for Pregnant Women and Their Effect on Fetus

“Vaccines against COVID-19 in pregnant women are harmful to the fetus”. This is the misinformation narrative that is being promoted using a headline of The world. However, the screenshots of this headline are manipulated: they cross out part of it, assuring that it talks about vaccines against SARS-CoV-2. The reality is that the content states that COVID-19 can have repercussions on the fetus and does not mention the vaccine, which is why this drug against infection is especially important in pregnant women. It is, therefore, de un bulo.

The contents that are disseminated share a screenshot of a publication of The world to ensure that the vaccine against COVID-19 would have negative effects on the fetus.

Now, this capture has been manipulated, crossing out some elements of the headline and subtitle (precisely those that anticipate what the text is really talking about). Also, although the article uses a photo of a person receiving a vaccine to illustrate the post, the original headline is: “Transmission from covid-19 to the fetus affects brain development and memory. In the same way, the subtitle emphasizes that “the investigation indicates that when the virus passes from mother to fetus could leave sequelae for a lifetime.

The text stresses that the study by the Institute of Neurosciences of the CSIC and the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche has focused “on determining how vulnerable the developing brain cells are al SARS-CoV-2 and how they might affect your nervous system”.

The recommendation is the opposite of what this narrative spreads: that pregnant women be vaccinated against COVID-19

This narrative ensures that vaccines against COVID-19 in pregnant women are harmful to the fetus and could have side effects for the baby. But it goes against the recommendation of the health authorities, recommends vaccination of pregnant women forprecisely, to reduce the risks of serious infection of the mother and the possible consequences that this could cause in the health of the fetus.

Therefore, it’s a hoax that this publication of El Mundo talks about the effects of vaccination on fetuses: it deals with research on the impact of the SARS-CoV-2 virus on the formation of their nervous system. Vaccination in pregnant women is recommended. to reduce the risk of serious infection by COVID-19 and its possible consequences in the fetus.
