The tragic case of 43 students. Mexico wants to arrest 46 officials for their deaths

Nearly six years after more than 40 students disappeared in southern Mexico, the prosecutor’s office is demanding 46 officials in the Guerrero state, where the disappearance took place, in connection with the case of arrest. According to the AP agency, this was announced today by the Supreme Public Prosecutor Alejandro Gertz.

About 43 students from the pedagogical school in Ayotzinapa disappeared in September 2014 during a protest in the city of Iguala. The young people were apparently handed over by the corrupt police to the Guerreros Unidos criminal gang, whose members then murdered the students and burned their bodies.

In recent days, Mexican authorities have detained one of the gang members, Angel Casarrubias, in connection with the case.

According to Gertz, several people whose arrest is requested by the prosecutor’s office have been detained in the past, but were released during the investigation. Gertz also said he was continuing an international search for Justice Department chief investigator Tomas Zeron, who had previously been in charge of the case. Experts and parents of students accuse him of manipulating the case. An arrest warrant was issued for Zeron in March, but he managed to escape from the country.
