Volkswagen’s flagship SUV in Europe now offers two plug-in hybrid versions. The weaker Touareg eHybrid complements the top Touareg R.

In recent weeks, the Volkswagen Touareg has been available on the Czech market for some time exclusively with the 3.0 TSI six-cylinder petrol engine, successful turbodiesel 4.0 TDI V8 ended due to emission standards. But now the offer is finally expanding, in addition to the return of the 3.0 TDI (210 kW), we have seen the previously announced plug-in hybrids. There are two, and in both cases you must prepare at least two million crowns for them.
The first is called Touareg eHybrid and you will pay at least 2,018,900 crowns for it. The second novelty is the Touareg R, a new top design, with a basic price tag of 2,212,900 crowns.
Both variants rely on the same technique. Both combine a supercharged petrol engine 3.0 TSI V6 with an output of 250 kW and an electric motor tuned to 100 kW complemented by an eight-speed automatic and a set of lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 17.9 kWh (of which 14.3 kW can be used).

However, a different strategy of cooperation of an internal combustion engine with an electric motor means different parameters. The Touareg eHybrid provides a maximum of 280 kW and 600 Nm, while the Touareg R boasts up to 340 kW and 700 Nm Incidentally, equally powerful plug-in hybrids have also recently appeared in the Audi Q8which shares a technical basis with Touareg.
The Touareg e-Hybrid is available in two trim levels, which differ from the conventional variants by selected features. A digitized “Innovision Cockpit” instrument panel, panoramic sliding and tilting sunroof, four-zone automatic climate control or 19 “alloy wheels are available at no extra charge. However, action packages, R-Line and R-Line Black Style packages and a spare wheel are not available on request. The air-suspended chassis is only available in a version without all-wheel steering.
The top Touareg R is then modified by specialists in the Volkswagen R division. This is the historically first R model with an externally chargeable hybrid drive and currently the most powerful production model of the Volkswagen brand. The sporty look is underlined by 20 “alloy wheels, black R Black Style exterior elements and the R logo on the radiator grille and rear hinged lid instead of the Touareg inscription.
In addition to the R-Line, the Touareg’s standard features include, among other things, Matrix LED interactive headlights, an “Innovision Cockpit” instrument panel with digital instruments, a panoramic sliding and tilting sunroof, four-zone automatic climate control and a heated sports multifunction steering wheel. The seats are upholstered in “Vienna R” leather with silver stitching, there are also illuminated door sills with the R logo and textile mats with blue stitching and the R logo.
