Carnival association De Katers will cancel all of the coming 2020-2021 carnival season in Holtum because of all the uncertainties surrounding the corona virus.

The association talks about ‘a difficult decision’ that was made after conclaving with the Association of Carnival Associations in Limburg (BCL) about what is wise.
The Tomcats feel that there is still too much uncertainty about the extent to which the coronavirus is under control. “It cannot and should not be the case that a beautiful party such as the Holtum carnival endangers the health of our inhabitants,” says the board.
The association realizes that it can be held responsible for a possible new virus outbreak from one of its events. De Katers do not want to run that risk.
Issues
The association also expects many problems when applying for permits for festivities, if it is decided to celebrate. “Then we will have to adhere to the many rules and guidelines, so that a party with many people is hardly possible,” the board expects.
In addition, De Katers think that it is not correct to appeal to local companies for sponsor money during this difficult time. Without that income, a good carnival season in the Katerrijk is impossible.
The Tomcats want to see if there is anything possible about festivities around the carnival days, depending on the current situation around corona.
