Hulu Reveals Premiere month & First Look Images for ‘The Testaments’
Los Angeles, CA – December 6, 2025 – Hulu has announced a September 2026 premiere for its highly anticipated series adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s ”The Testaments,” the sequel to her acclaimed novel “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Alongside the premiere window, the streamer released a collection of first-look photographs offering a glimpse into the dystopian world of Gilead.
“The Testaments,” published in 2019, won the Booker Prize and expands upon the universe established in “the handmaid’s Tale,” exploring themes of female agency, resistance, and the complexities of power. The new series, produced by MGM Television, will continue the narrative, delving into the lives of three women in Gilead – Aunt lydia, Agnes Jemima, and Daisy – and their interconnected stories that challenge the foundations of the totalitarian regime.
The cast includes Ann Dowd reprising her role as Aunt lydia, alongside newcomers margaret Qualley as Agnes Jemima and Christine Exner as Daisy. The series is showrun by Bruce Miller, who also serves as executive producer alongside Atwood and Warren Littlefield. Production is currently underway in Toronto.
Atwood previously stated that “The testaments” was “not a sequel in the conventional sense,” but rather a continuation of the story with new characters and perspectives. The Hulu adaptation aims to capture the novel’s intricate plot and thought-provoking themes, offering a fresh exploration of the dangers of extremism and the enduring power of hope.
