One of the most significant innovations of the modernized Tesla Model S evokes somewhat embarrassing reactions, but the carmaker will not return to the classic steering wheel.

The rejuvenated Tesla Model S was a sought-after novelty mainly due to the long-promised sports model Plaid, which was to take the car’s dynamics back to a whole new level. In addition, however, the carmaker introduced several other attractions during the modernization, including a modified interior with a completely new steering wheel.
It is no longer round and lacks the upper part, so it resembles a stick from a plane. In addition, Tesla removed the transmission selector so that mode D or R is selected across the screen, and also got rid of the levers behind the wheel. For example, the turn signals and lights are now controlled via touch buttons on the steering wheel arm.

At first glance, this was a rather controversial solution, which raised a number of questions. The first reviews from overseas praised the technique of the new Plaid model, but the steering wheel caught more criticism. And for many reasons.
For example, Marques Brownlee, a well-known influencer, also complained about the steering wheel in a new video about the Tesla Model S Plaid. It wasn’t about its shape, but rather about its tactile controls, which are badly accustomed to. Elon Musk also responded to his criticism via Twitter, admitting some of the bugs and promising to correct them during future updates.

However, @fredsterrrr responded to Muska’s post, asking Muska if there was a chance to get a new Model S with a classic steering wheel. Musk’s answer was simply “No”. The Model S will remain true to its unconventional steering wheel, although photos have appeared in the past that Tesla considered during the development of the facelift. At least for lower versions.
In the end, however, this possibility was probably definitely swept from the table, and now we can only wait to see if the new steering wheel will gradually begin to appear in other models of the California carmaker.
