More than two thirds of the population is in favor of the compulsory wearing of masks on public transport, according to a survey. Tracing applications are popular with 60% of respondents. And almost 70% welcome the return to school.

Half of the citizens questioned do not know anyone who has had Covid-19 disease, according to a poll by Tamedia newspapers published on Monday. They are just as likely to have little fear of contamination. This fear increases with age.

The most burdensome restrictions for the population are those related to social activities. This is the most serious consequence of the fight against the pandemic for 39% of respondents. Women suffer more than men.

Alcohol consumption increased in 12% of participants and decreased in 25% of them. The practice of a sport has definitely taken a hit. More than a third of those surveyed have done less sport since semi-containment. Regarding the holidays, 19% of those questioned want to stay in Switzerland and 27% will decide spontaneously.

Government on the rise

Confidence in the government is particularly high, at 84%. The rate of deconfinement decreed by the Federal Council is considered appropriate by 45% of the population, too slow by 15% and too fast by 38%. A generational and gender gap emerges at this level: 42% of women consider the return to normal too fast, while 55% of those over 65 approve of the government.

The majority also support the economic measures decided by the authorities. More concretely, the support for airline companies Swiss and Edelweiss is seen by 48% of the participants, in particular the voters of the PLR ​​and the PDC. The reopening of borders is not unanimous: 45% of respondents want a reopening at the end of May, 52% are against it.

Nearly 35% of those questioned, mainly voters of the SVP, consider the economic losses too great compared to the health benefits. And 32%, mainly from the ranks of the SVP, the PLR ​​and the PVL, say they are for collective immunity.

The poll was conducted on May 14 on newspaper websites and 26,145 people participated. The margin of error is 1.4%. The previous survey was conducted on April 15.
