The Supreme Court annuls Otegi’s sentence for belonging to a terrorist organization in the ‘Bateragune case’ | Politics

The Supreme Court has annulled the sentence of the ‘Bateragune case‘which in 2012 imposed sentences of between 6 years and 6 and a half years in prison to the current leader EH Bildu, Arnaldo Otegi, and two other defendants, following the condemnation of Spain in 2018 by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) for the partiality of a judge.

The Second Chamber of the Supreme Court thus considers the appeals for review filed by Arnaldo Otegi, Rafael Díez Usabiaga, Arkaitz Rodríguez Torres, Sonia Jacinto Garcia and Miren Zabaleta Tellería.

The failure of Strasbourg who agreed with Otegi For lack of impartiality of a magistrate of the National Court authorizes, in the judgment of the Supreme, the filing of the appeal for review and its estimation.
