The summer heat greets in southern Norway – NRK Norway – Overview of news from different parts of the country

Only once before have we had a warmer average temperature in the country in June than we had this year. That was in June 1953.

Central Norway and Eastern Norway recorded the warmest June ever. In Oslo, 11 tropical days and eight tropical nights were registered.

July, on the other hand, has been cold in southern Norway, with a lot of gray weather and rain.

Unusually cold and wet

– The highest temperature in July was measured at Blindern in Oslo on 15 July. It was 23.1 degrees. It is unusually low for the region.

This is what State meteorologist Rafael Escobar Løvdahl says.

But now it’s getting warmer, at least this weekend.

– Thursday will be a nice day, although there is still danger of some showers. Friday will be the warmest day in the south of the country. The temperature will reach over 25 degrees in several places.

It will be the only day in July with such a high temperature in southern Norway.

Not since 1993 have we had such a cold July in the south of the country.

However, Løvdahl can not promise that the heat this weekend will last.

– When we come over in August, the temperature will drop again, and the weather will change.

Warm in the North

In the north of the country, on the other hand, there has been a lot of nice weather so far in July.

In Svalbard it has been several days with over 20 degrees, and historical heat records.

– Even though it has been hot in the north during this period, the average temperature in Kirkenes, for example, is still a degree lower than in southern Norway. You can take that with you, says the state meteorologist.
