KOMPAS.com – Okti Christiana (45) can only pray that his son, Joseph Arnando (8), remains enthusiastic even though his aspirations become army vanished.

Okti said that every day he didn’t get tired of encouraging Nando.

One day, said Okti, Nando will get an artificial leg and be able to return to his activities.

Okti also admitted that he was still strengthening himself with the conditions experienced by his family.

“Whatever I will do for my child. And all I leave to God to look after my children,” said Okti with a tone of emotion.

Okti’s struggle is getting tougher after becoming the only backbone of the family.

Her husband, Stefanus Andre Rutyanto, died 8 years ago.

Okti also has to work hard to provide for her other two children by working as a school canteen manager at Sedes Sapientiea Semarang.

Okti’s condition got even more difficult when the corona pandemic made the school where he worked closed.

Okti admitted that he had to borrow money from relatives to make ends meet.

History of Nando’s disease

Okti explained, Nando was sentenced to a doctor having suffered from bone cancer in 2019.

At that time, Nando was still sitting in Kindergarten. After finishing playing, Nando complained of pain in the thigh of his left leg.

Okti thought her child was tired, then had a traditional massage.

However, after a while the swelling in his leg got bigger and bigger so Okti decided to take Nando to the hospital.

“At first I thought it was normal swelling. But the way was limping. It turned out that I just said that it fell when I played, so I took it to a traditional massage. But after two months later the swelling got bigger so I checked it at Bhayangkara Hospital, Semarang,” said Okti. contacted on Sunday (16/8/2020).

When examined, the doctor said that Nando’s leg was just a normal bruise and then he was given medicine to reduce the bruise.

Since then, Okti has struggled to make her child recover. However, in reality, after undergoing chemotherapy treatment, doctors found out that the cancer had invaded the lungs.

Then the doctor suggested that Nando’s left leg be amputated so that the cancer did not spread.

“Hearing this, Nando and I were shocked and cried together,” he said. Okti did not expect to have to accept this harsh reality.

“Which parent wants to see their child lose his leg,” he said.

A year later, Nando finally gave up his leg amputation.
“Nando’s left leg was amputated last month, to be precise July 14 2020 at 10.00 WIB,” he said.

After the amputation, Nando was reluctant to go to school because he admitted that he was embarrassed.
