KOMPAS.TV – Anika Chebrolu managed to find a potential therapy for patients infected with the virus corona (Covid-19). For this achievement, the 14 year old girl won hundreds of millions of money.

Anika is lined up as the winner 3M Young Scientist Challenge in 2020 with prizes bringing in 25,000 US dollars or around Rp. 366 million.

The girl from Frisco, Texas, used the in-silico methodology to find molecules that can selectively bind to the SARS-CoV-2 virus spike protein in an attempt to find a cure for the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The last two days, I saw a lot of media hype about my project because it involved the SARS-CoV-2 virus and it reflects our collective hope of ending this pandemic because I, like everyone else, hope we go back to our normal lives soon,” said Anika quoted from Kompas.com.

Anika, who is of Indian-American descent, did not actually use the in-silico method to find potential therapies for Covid-19.

At that time, this method was only used to identify lead compounds that could bind to the proteins of the common coronavirus.
