Slowly but surely. Tuesday January 12, on the floor of Nantes still undefeated, Saint-Quentin built throughout the match his success (61-85). Thanks to a varied attacking game and once again very solid defense. This is the third consecutive victory for the SQBB, after the successes in Paris and against Rouen in December.
The SQBB in the match despite its ineffectiveness at 3 points
The match begins with an anger from Julien Mahé, the coach of Saint-Quentin, after a defensive oversight by Phillip, giving the first two points to Negrobar. The interior is catching up well, scoring 4 of the first 7 points for his team. Ineffective at 3 points (0 out of 10 in the first quarter), the SQBB relies on its other interior, Rhoomes, to register the other 3 points. The two men are well served by Besson, author of three assists. On the other side of the field, Desseignet allows his team to offer themselves a 7 point lead (14-7). It is nibbled by Besson and Jackson-Cartwright, author of three throws after a new distant unsuccessful attempt (14-14). Yeboah, on the throwing line, responds to Smith and puts his team in a tie at the end of the first quarter.
Gillet widens the gap
From the start of the second quarter, Jackson-Cartwright gave Saint-Quentin the advantage for the first time in the game. It stabilizes at +5 (20-25, 22-27) thanks to Yeboah and Besson. And a huge counter from Rhoomes on an Ajayi arrived thrown for the dunk. While Sanchez had brought his team to a unit (26-27), Gillet takes matters in hand. First of all by scoring by getting the foul. Then by registering, after more than 17 minutes of play, the first winner of his team (26-33). Rhoomes, valuable in defense with several stolen balls, limits the Nantes offensive game, blocked at 10 points in ten minutes. Gillet returns to the locker room on a new award-winning, offering 12 points ahead of SQBB (26-38).
Saint-Quentin sets the sights
As in Paris, the start of the second half is sluggish for Saint-Quentin. Rhoomes’ block on Sylla seemed to have awakened the team. But the ball is immediately lost and a foul conceded on Sanchez. Phillip puts an end to Nantes’ 6-0 with two award-winners who do good (32-44). The defensive intensity goes up a notch on both sides, the perfect time for Saint-Quentin to adjust the sights to 3 points. Gillet, twice, and Yeboah find the loophole. Gauthier, then Negrobar on the buzzer, respond and leave Nantes in the match (47-58).
+20 for the SQBB which holds good
Ajayi, well padlocked since the start of the meeting, slams a dunk which has the merit of waking up the Nantes bench. Quickly calmed down by the 3 points in the corner of Pfister (49-61). With a defense mounted yet another notch (2 points conceded in four minutes), the SQBB increased its points capital, with in particular Bazille found twice in a row at the head of the racket (+18, 49-67). He even passed the 20-point lead thanks to Besson at 3 points, the fault as a bonus (49-71). Nantes tries to come back, force his shots in the image of Smith. But nothing to do, the SQBB holds its third victory of the season (61-85), concluded in particular by a dunk from Rhoomes in counter-attack.
