The spectacular images of a group of more than 150 dolphins in Galicia | Society

The Rías Baixas are one of the most desired tourist destinations in the summer, but apparently the Galician coast is not only liked by Spanish tourists. The Bottlenose Dolphin Research Institute (BDRI) has sighted this week a group of over 150 bottlenose dolphins a few miles from Ons Island. Something rare because these marine mammals tend to move through the area in much smaller groups.

“Each sighting of a group of dolphins causes a smile and the last few days have been incredible thanks to the meteorological conditions and the sightings,” they say in your facebook page, where they have also posted a video with spectacular images recorded last Monday.

In statements to The voice of Galicia, Bruno Díaz, director of the Galician research center Bottlenose Dolphin Research Institute (BDRI), explains that on the Galician coast there are two types of bottlenose dolphin and that the group sighted this week consisted of pelagic rice, which are much more difficult to see because they are usually in the high seas and “form very numerous aggregations, for protection and for the capture of food.”

According to the expert, “that we see such numerous aggregations means that there is enough food for everyone.” But the abundance of plankton and small fish, which is what favors the visit of dolphins and whales, is part of a biodiversity that, in his opinion, is important to conserve.

El Bottlenose Dolphin Research Institute (BDRI), with headquarters in O Grove (Pontevedra), is defined as “a marine research center dedicated to research and academic training to thus contribute to the conservation of the marine environment and its inhabitants”.
