Russian Nikita Mazepin, son of Uralchem owner and Uralkali co-owner Dmitry Mazepin, signed a contract with the Haas Formula 1 team, reported press service of the team. The 21-year-old will be joining the team starting in the 2021 season.
“I am glad that Nikita Mazepin will play for the Haas team. He has matured into a mature driver, moving up the junior series, ”said team leader Gunther Steiner.
This season, the Russian competes in Formula 2 for the Hitech GP. He is in third place overall with 162 points.
Mazepin will become the fourth Russian driver in the history of Formula 1. Before him, Vitaly Petrov, Sergey Sirotkin and Daniil Kvyat got to the championship.
