Three days of packed pavilions, professional visitors and a world-class congress created a climate of trust, fruitful negotiations and the conviction that now is the time to develop the new energy landscape. Despite the restrictions still posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, The smarter E South America strictly followed current health and safety protocols and confirmed its leadership in the Latin American market, attracting more than 250 exhibitors and around 28,000 visitors from 29 countries al Expo Center North of São Paulo, from November 18 to 20.
Markets on the rise
South America’s solar markets are growing. After Brazil surpassed the milestones of 5, 6 and 7 GW of total accumulated installed solar capacity in 2020, this year it has already exceeded 11 GW. The Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy (ABSOLAR) has stated that in 2020 Brazil installed more solar energy than in any previous year. In that year, the facilities reached a record 3,150 MW, adding 2,540 MW in distributed generation and 618 MW in centralized generation. Experts are confident that 2021 will present an even more dynamic development.
In its Ten-Year Energy Expansion Plan (PDE), the Energy Research Company (EPE) predicts that until 2030 photovoltaic solar energy can reach between 24.7 and 43.2 GW of accumulated installed capacity. In the case of centralized generation, PDE 2030 considers that the energy auctions will add an average annual capacity of 559 MW between 2021 and 2030. Regarding distributed generation, between 16 and 35 GW of total accumulated installed capacity are expected up to 2030. Adding together centralized and distributed generation, PDE 2030 forecasts an average annual increase of between 1.8 and 3.7 GW in aggregate photovoltaic solar energy capacity from 2021 to 2030.

The event occupied 31,500 m² of exhibition space at the Expo Center Norte and marked the return of the fairs, much celebrated by the industry. Visitors and exhibitors who could not be at the innovation center had the opportunity to participate in the congress through an online broadcast, and can now access articles, testimonials and interviews to catch up on everything they missed.
