The sequel to Agnese Vanaga’s “Plastic Hooligans” has been published. The first book was nominated for the Baltvilka Prize / Article / LSM.lv

“Jāņa Rozes apgāds” has released a sequel to the children’s favorite book “Plastic Hooligans”. In Agnese Vanaga’s first book, Čiekurkalns’ brothers Klāvs and Intars tried together to save the world from pollution. The second book is also dedicated to environmental problems, as evidenced not only by the already familiar image of the book – a plastic bag, but also a straw. The first book was published last year nominated for the Jānis Baltvilks Prize in the category of children’s and youth literature. –

The son of the book’s author Agnese Vanaga is one of the inspirers of the stories, as well as a serious critic during the writing of the books. The author admits that her three children are almost the book’s creative team.

“As soon as there is the first chapter of the book, I read them immediately and see how they react and whether they are interesting. They are so natural, they are not ashamed to express their most honest opinion. In addition, they ask more questions and I have to look for deeper answers, because the usual answers are “” because it is “. And sometimes that brainstorming and searching for answers leads to inspiration to write a story, ”says the author about the book-making process.

The second source of inspiration is the author’s great love for nature and the author perceives writing books as a letter of thanks to the world we are in.

In the first book of plastic hooligans, two brothers Intars and Klāvs met with a sad plastic bag – a tangle. The same heroes will also be found in the book just published, but one of the friends will be missing, as well as brand new heroes will be added, which are recommended to the author by the readers themselves.

Such, for example, is the young hero – a straw, which is also a big polluter of nature. There is also a gang of bags in the new book.

Agnese Vanaga points out that the aim of the book is not to teach how to protect nature, but to provoke reflections and possibly some revelations. The author hopes that children will also have thoughtful discussions with adults in the family.

“When I meet, I feel that children think more about these topics than adults, and they are more categorical and very hot, and that’s important to them. It is the right audience to talk to about nature protection topics, but adults are more relaxed, disinterested or lack time, ”the author observed.

Agnese Vanaga also plans to visit schools and libraries in the autumn with her second book on the adventures of plastic hooligans and the topic of environmental pollution.

Already in August, the author’s new book “Yard Encyclopedia” will be published about the adventures of a city dweller – a British gray cat, entering the country yard and meeting its inhabitants – earthworms, hedgehogs, beetles, snakes and many others.
