The National Hockey League (NHL) team, the Ottawa Senators, has made a strategic decision to fire longtime striker Bobby Ryan, North American journalists report.
Ottawa will buy out the remaining 33-year-old Ryan’s contract, which lasted until 2022, and he will be able to join any other league unit.
“I was a little surprised, but I understand that decision,” Ryan told journalist Aien Mendes. “Ottawa Senators is a promising and young team with many bright seasons ahead.”
Back in the summer, Ryan told local Ottawa media that he was in his best shape again after he recovered from alcohol addiction. By redeeming his contract, the Senator will save nearly four million salary resources in each of the next two seasons.
With the dismissal of Ryan, the “Senator” fell even further under the salary floor. To be included this season, the team will still need to pay $ 22 million in player salaries.
Although Rainen is likely to have some more quality seasons ahead, he does not fit into the current “Senators” model, as the club is being rebuilt. It should be reminded that the Ottawa club is still considering whether to extend the contract with the Latvian striker Rūdolfs Balcers.
Ryan has been playing in Ottawa since 2013, spending seven seasons with the team, but before that he represented the Anaheim Ducks. He has a total of 833 regular championship games in the NHL, in which the striker has accumulated 555 (254 + 301) points.
Bobby Ryan is a goody guy, and still has game. He will find a new NHL home. https://t.co/zSnAUxzLK4
