After strict lockdowns swept across the world in early 2020 in an attempt to prevent an outbreak of the Coronavirus, things seemed to turn around midway during the year, as restrictions began to be lifted and cases began to decline.
But the Coronavirus has never gone away. This is evident now, as many countries face a second wave. But regardless of what it actually means, such a contradiction between restriction and mitigation stresses the psychological state, says psychotherapist and author Miriam Press, and it gets worse the more often.
And individuals can realize when an epidemic is affecting them more than it should be when they feel their stress has reached its limit.
On the behavioral level, this means withdrawal from social life and isolation, but on the emotional level, it is characterized by boredom, fear and tension, which can develop into a state of panic, according to Press.
The therapist warned that emotional fatigue and surrender can develop as the tension persists, making the situation more difficult to deal with. The immune system is also affected by stress, which can begin to appear through the development of physical illnesses as well.
Press recommends creating inner resilience by constantly checking yourself how you feel inside and out. This means actively paying attention to how you react to a disorder and consulting with a doctor before it becomes a bigger problem.
