The second Landes pride march marches against the far right this Saturday in Saint-Paul-lès-Dax

“No extreme right for our rights: rural people are not fascists” : this is the slogan chosen for the pride march organized this Saturday at 3 p.m. in Saint-Paul-les-Dax. This is the second edition of this parade in the department for the defense of the rights of LGBT people.

Fear of a rollback of rights

This theme was chosen by the members of the collective Pride Landes between the two rounds of the presidential election, where the candidate of the National Rally Marine Le Pen arrived finalist. Since then, 89 deputies from his party have been elected to the National Assembly, a record for this political formation.

For Charline Grégoire, representative of the association Fiertés Landes: “There is real concern about a decline in rights with the arrival of an extreme right in power, or close to power: women’s rights, with access to abortion for example, or the rights of LGBT people who are severely punished in Hungary or Poland for example” commented the activist.

Fight against all discrimination

According to her, belonging to the LGBT community is already a political fact: “Our community is in intersectionality: it fights against all forms of discrimination. However, the positions of the far right are clearly anti-LGBT, or anti-immigration” explains Charline Grégoire.

She invites those who share these values to join the gathering: “It’s a militant day but also a festive day: it’s important to show up, to be represented and to know that we are not alone, whatever our age. We also need our allies to recognize us in our specificities” she says.

The procession will leave on Saturday at 3 p.m. from the park of the town hall of Saint-Paul-lès-Dax, where a pride village will be set up from 10:30 a.m. A picnic is organized just before from 1 p.m.
