The sale of alcohol to take away prohibited at night in Schaerbeek, Evere and Saint-Josse

Cécile Jodogne, Ridouane Chahid and Emir Kir – the three mayors of the North police zone (Schaerbeek, Evere and Saint-Josse-ten-Noode) – have decided to ban the sale of alcoholic drinks to take away between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. . Drinks are specifically concerned “in excess of an alcoholic strength of 1.2%”. The sale and consumption of alcohol are still permitted in drinking establishments, restaurants and through delivery services.

This measure follows a series of public order disturbances that occurred this summer in several neighborhoods in the area such as Place Liedts, Place de la Reine, rue de Brabant but also on the territory of the municipalities of Evere and Saint -Josse-ten-Noode (place Houwaert, rue Verbiest, place de la Paix, place Paduwa, rue de Liedekerke, etc.).

The police services have in fact noticed that more and more people are buying alcohol for consumption, in groups, in parks and / or on public benches. The objective of this measure is therefore to fight against these nocturnal gatherings, sources of many neighborhood disturbances and petty crime.

The measure takes effect from this Friday, August 21. Until September 13.
