On Tuesday, the government decided to increase the lowest monthly salary rate for teachers for academic staff as of September 1 this year.

According to the amendments to the regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers developed by the Ministry of Education and Science (MES), according to the schedule of salary increase, the lowest monthly salary rate from September 1, 2020 is 805 euros, which is a benchmark for other salary rates. or close to the minimum teacher rate.

The Ministry emphasizes that these amendments stipulate that the lowest monthly salary rate for a professor is 1569 euros, an associate professor 1256 euros, an assistant professor 1005 euros, a lecturer 805 euros and an assistant 641 euros, the rates of which affect the basic costs of the study place. At the same time, an increase in the salary rate is also planned for other employees of higher education institutions and colleges.

The Ministry of Education and Science explains that according to the Ministry updating the basic costs of one study place, the Ministry will recalculate the amount of study funding allocated to higher education institutions and colleges, taking into account the distribution of budget places allocated to higher education institutions for 2020. in the memoranda of understanding concluded with the colleges.

According to the information provided by the Ministry, it follows that this norm will apply to approximately 593 university professors, 507 associate professors, 887 docents, 687 lecturers and 327 assistants, as well as to 62 college docents, 184 lecturers and 65 assistants who work at the university and college. full-time, as well as to academic staff in these positions who work part-time.

Raising salaries this year will cost 383,777 euros, while in 2021, 2022 and 2023 – 1,151,328 euros. The Ministry of Education and Science explains that in 2020 the necessary funding for raising the minimum wage rate for higher education teachers will be diverted from the Ministry’s budget for 2020 by reallocating appropriations from the Ministry of Education and Science’s sub-program to the relevant budget programs and sub-programs, for which a draft order of the Cabinet of Ministers “On redistribution of appropriations between ministries” will be prepared.

On the other hand, the issue of additional state budget funds in the amount of 1,151,328 euros in 2021 and further is considered in the Cabinet of Ministers in the process of preparation and review of the draft medium-term budget framework law and the annual state budget bill.
