The Saint-André fair returns this Tuesday November 30 and Wednesday December 1 in Avignon. Created in 1243, the fair is one of the oldest events of the Vaucluse. When it was created, it took place at the old Porte Ferruce at the foot of the Rocher des Doms. Pope Gregory XI had moved it to Place des Carmes. She then moved to Place de l’Horloge before landing on Cours Jean-Jaurès where she is currently standing.
50 years ago, 250 horses and ponies were still sold at the fair. The animals were tied to rings that can still be seen today around the ramparts. Today, the fair mainly presents textiles, accessories and catering.
