The Sad Story Behind Apriyani Rahayu’s Success Wins a Gold Medal, Mother Dies While Competing

The euphoria of the victory of Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the people of Indonesia are still feeling it. Both managed to make history after successfully winning the first gold medal in the women’s doubles badminton branch.

Gyersia and Apriyani’s success cannot be separated from their hard work and family support. One of them that is quite interesting is the inspirational story of Apriyani Rahayu.

Apriyani Rahayu was born in Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulamwesi on April 29, 1998. He is the fourth child of the couple Ameruddin and Sitti Jauhar (deceased).

The late Mother who died in 2015 is one support system biggest in Apriyani’s life. On the day her mother died, Apriyani was known to be competing at the World Junior Championships in Lima, Peru.

Even though he knew his mother had died, Apriyani continued the match. Even though at that time he did not become a champion, it can be said that that moment became one of Apriyani’s mental steel formations as an athlete.

Five years after that moment, Apriyani managed to become one of the gold medal-winning athletes at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, with Greysia Polii.

Apriyani never forgets the support of her mother and her extended family back home. This 23-year-old woman also presented the gold medal she won for her late mother, father, and brother.

“This gold medal is not just Ka’s dream Greysia, but also me. This gold medal is for my late parents and my brother,” said Apriyani, quoted from the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) website.

Apriyani seems to be very close to her mother. In some uploads on Instagram hers, was seen uploading a photo of the Mother as an expression of longing on Mother’s Day a few years ago.

“Happy mother’s day. I love you mahh , Miss you so much,” he wrote, quoted from Instagram @r.apriyanig, Wednesday (11/8/21).

In another upload, Apriyani shared a photo when she visited the mother’s grave. The woman who was born in 1998 looks down while holding her mother’s tombstone. “My home #Mom, “wrote Apriyani.
