FHI has estimated that between 2,000 and 4,000 young children can be admitted to hospital with RS virus infection this winter. Last week, 436 cases of infection were detected, compared with 296 the week before, Aftenposten reports.
This corresponds to an increase of 47 percent.
– We see that we get a lot of RS infection already. And this is earlier than usual, so it may look like the announced wave is here, says Astrid Elisabeth Rojahn, chief physician and specialist in pediatrics at Ullevål hospital.
She says that the number of infections has risen sharply in the children’s ward at Ullevål.
– The children who come here are tired, can not bear to eat and many breathe quickly and strained, says Rojahn.
