The royal family on a stroll in the province of Luxembourg, for a good cause

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, accompanied by their four children, King Albert and Queen Paola, visited the province of Luxembourg on Sunday.

They notably went to the viewpoint of the Tomb of the Giant and then walked to the edge of the Semois. Only the royal family did this four-kilometer walk, without King Albert and Queen Paola. Accompanied by a guide, the sovereigns were able to benefit from information on the region they crossed. Finally, they concluded their journey at Notre-Dame de Clairefontaine Abbey, in Cordemois.

The Tomb of the Giant is located in Botassart, near Bouillon, and has been part of the exceptional heritage of the Walloon Region since 2016. His name finds its origin in the legend of a large Gallic hero who, after having been defeated during ‘a battle, refused to be captured by the Romans and threw himself from the “Rocher des Gattes”. The inhabitants of Botassart would then have found his body before burying it at the top of the hill surrounded by the Semois.

With this excursion, the sovereigns wish to support the Belgian tourism sector. On Saturday, they had already visited Bokrijk, in the province of Limburg.
