The section on fundamental rights and freedoms will now contain a clause stating that “the right to defend one’s own life or the life of another person, even with the help of a weapon, is guaranteed under the conditions established by law.”
Martin Cervichek, on behalf of the initiators of the amendment, said that disarming the population would not provide greater security, since criminals would still receive weapons illegally.
The amendment will enter into force on the first day of the second calendar month following the day of its publication in the Collection of Laws, that is not earlier than August 1 and not later than September 1.
The amendment is based on a petition signed by 102 thousand people, including many constitutional officials.
