The remisero’s lawyer reported injuries and said he was going to testify: “They beat him to death.”

The lawyer Mauro Pantaleón Cardoso, who after the first assistance of an official defender would have taken charge of the defense of the remisero accused of the crime in Altos de San Lorenzo, said that the accused “was beaten to death” in a police station, and Although he did not hold police personnel responsible for the incident, he maintained that he presented a habeas corpus and a complaint for “injuries.”

The lawyer told ELDIA.COM that he cannot establish whether the blows to the remisero Marcelo Alejandro Saleh (55) were caused by police personnel or by other detainees at the Segunda de La Plata police station where he said he was housed.

“We spoke for less than five minutes and we found him very beaten. He did not tell us anything and that is why we want an investigation to begin,” said the lawyer who announced that “the man is going to testify soon.”

As reported, the remisero Saleh refused to give a statement in the first call made by the prosecutor Menucci, where he was assisted by an official defender.

Asked about what his client told him about the event, Cardoso assured that “for the moment we have nothing clear” and pointed out that “we hope to have a more extensive talk and see what panorama we find.”

The lawyer said that he knows the accused for having assisted him in a case for usurpation of land in the La Unión area, of which, he said, “Saleh is a victim.”

In that sense, he was “surprised” by the fact that he is being accused and as a reference explained that in the case of the usurpation (a cause that is still ongoing) “the man went to court and did not make any violent decision.” He added that “the man had a piece of land and a little house and they usurped it a long time ago and he has not been able to recover anything.”

As reported, Marcelo Alejandro Saleh (55), the Ensenada taxi driver arrested as the main suspect in the beating of the young Ayelén Estefanía Arredondo (23) at his parents’ home in the Altos de San Lorenzo neighborhood of La Plata. Saleh, who as reported was detained by a neighbor who saw him leave the crime scene and with the help of other people from the neighborhood handed him over to the police, was investigated in the last hours by the prosecutor Juan Menucci, in charge of the Functional Instruction Unit (UFI) 5 of the La Plata Judicial Department, but on the advice of his lawyer, the defendant did not say a word.

“He is going to testify,” his lawyer told ELDIA.COM.
