The Reds Win 2-0, Continue to Paste City

Liverpool keep sticking Manchester City at the top Premier League standings. This is after the Reds struggled to beat Everton 2-0.

In the match which was held at Anfield on Sunday (4/24/2022) night WIB, Liverpool struggled to break into the Everton goal and it took more than an hour to score through Andrew Robertson. Then, Divock Origi closed it through a goal in the final five minutes of the match.

An additional three points keep Liverpool in second place with 79 points from 33 matches, one point away from Man City in first position. Everton entered the relegation zone alias position 18th with 29 points.

The course of the match Liverpool vs Everton

Liverpool, which fielded the trio of Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, and Sadio Mane, played aggressively from the early minutes. But, Everton also dared to serve with a hard game in all corners of the field.

Despite controlling the game, Liverpool struggled to build attacks because the Everton defense was layered. There were no dangerous chances from either team until the 20th minute.

Liverpool could only create opportunities in the 21st minute. Sadio Mane got the ball in front of the penalty box and escaped Allan’s control, but his shot still flew just over the bar Jordan Pickford.

The match heated up when Anthony Gordon who stabbed from the left tried to dive in the penalty box, while being escorted by Naby Keita. The referee who was close to Gordon immediately gave him a yellow card.

In the 32nd minute, Liverpool again threatened the Everton goal. Jota popped up at the near post to reach Andrew Robertson’s cross even though his shot went sideways.

Everton got the chance to strike into the Liverpool defense when Richarlison snatched the ball from Thiago Alcantara. He gave it to Abdoulaye Doucoure who ran into the box and tried to shoot but went wide.

Salah tried to shoot from the penalty box after playing bait 1-2 with Naby Keita in the 42nd minute. However, his shot still flew over the bar.

Until halftime, the score remained 0-0.

Entered in the second half, Liverpool still could not create a clear chance at Everton’s goal. Several times Liverpool also struggled to serve Everton’s counter-attack.

Gordon had a chance in the 58th minute when he accelerated down the left and finished with a cross but went wide.

To sharpen the attack, Liverpool entered Luis Diaz and Divock Origi in the 60th minute. The result was seen two minutes later when Liverpool finally broke the deadlock through Andrew Robertson.

Origi and Salah played 1-2 passes on the right side of the penalty box before ending with a cross to the far post. There was Robertson who headed the ball into Pickford’s goal.

That goal made Liverpool more eager to attack the Everton defense. One chance was obtained in the 66th minute through Joel Matip’s header which was aimed at goal but was blocked by Allan right on the line, before the rebound was brushed by Salah and floated.

Liverpool’s attack intensity increased in the last 10 minutes. In the 84th minute, Thiago found space to shoot in front of the penalty box, but his shot that hit the opposing defender was parried by Pickford.

From there was born a corner kick that put the ball at the feet of Henderson and sent a cross to the right side. Luis Diaz responded with an acrobatic strike and the ball headed straight for Origi’s head to put Liverpool 2-0 up.
