Belgium bulldozed Iceland on the second matchday UEFA Nations League A Grup 2. Roberto Martinez’s team won 5-1.
Belgium vs Iceland takes place at King Baudouin Stadium, Wednesday (9/9/2020) in the morning WIB. De Rode Duivels was surprised by his guests first when Holmbert Aron Fridjonsson broke in the 10th minute with a curling shot.
Belgium responded quickly to the opponent’s goal. Axel Witsel broke into the Iceland goal in the 13th minute after snatching the rebound from a free shot Kevin de Bruyne.
Michy Batshuayi made Belgium turn 2-1 ahead in the 17th minute. The 26-year-old striker successfully snatched the ball from Witsel’s shot which was first pushed over by the opposing goalkeeper. the score lasted until halftime.
Iceland was unable to stem Belgium in the second half. The home team increased the lead to 3-1 in the 50th minute through Dries Mertens’ goal, who took advantage of De Bruyne’s bait ball from messing up the opponent’s defense.
Batshuayi scored again in the 69th minute. He tore the opponent’s goal after continuing Yari Verschaeren’s cross with a back heel. Belgium to lead 4-1.
Jeremy Doku scored the closing goal in the 79th minute to give Belgium a 5-1 win. After receiving the ball from De Bruyne, Doku made a move on the left side of the penalty box and fired a measured shot.
This landslide victory made Belgium sit at the top of Group 2 with six points. England are second with four points after being held to a 0-0 draw by Denmark.
Denmark is temporarily in third position. Iceland at the bottom of the standings with zero points.
