The Red Cross calls for blood donation “without delay” in the face of stocks in “critical condition”

The Belgian Red Cross currently has less than 1,300 bags, whereas it would take 3,000 to meet the needs of hospitals.

Lhe Belgian Red Cross is calling on the population to come and donate blood “without delay”, while current stocks are in “critical condition”. “The summer holidays, the Covid-19, the floods are all elements which have, and continue to strongly disrupt the blood supply in recent weeks”, reports Sunday evening Thomas Paulus, marketing and communication manager of the charity association.

The Belgian Red Cross currently has less than 1,300 bags, whereas it would take 3,000 to meet the needs of hospitals.

The association regrets that the withdrawals have been lower than forecasts for more than six weeks. “The floods that hit our country hard have had a major impact on withdrawals during this summer recess period. These combined elements have caused our blood stocks to drop to critical levels, ”explains the communication.

With a new call for blood donation, the association hopes in this way to be able to calmly manage the supply of hospitals in the weeks to come.

Appointments in one of the 16 permanent collection centers can be made directly on the site www.DonneurDeSang.be.
