The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) issued a fatwa that the COVID-19 vaccine produced by CanSino Biologics Inc. Chinese origin is haram. This stipulation is contained in the MUI Fatwa number 11 of 2022 concerning the Law on the Covid-19 Vaccine Production of Cansino Biologics Inc. China.

This decree was signed by MUI General Chair Miftachul Akhyar, MUI Secretary General Amirsyah Tambunan, MUI Fatwa Commission Chairman Hasanuddin AF, and MUI Fatwa Commission Secretary Miftahul Huda on 7 February 2022.

“CanSino’s Covid-19 vaccine is illegal,” reads the fatwa quoted from the official MUI website, Sunday (3/7/2022).

MUI explained that the vaccine, which has another name Convidecia, is illegal. Based on the existing findings, there is the use of parts of the human body.

This is the reason why the vaccine is certainly haram in Islamic teachings.

“Utilizing parts of the human body (jus’ minal insa), namely cells derived from the kidneys of human baby embryos,” the fatwa continued.
