The question remains why MH17 was shot from the air in 2014 NOW

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) announced on Tuesday on the second session of this week that it has not yet been able to find out the reason for which flight MH17 was shot on July 17, 2014. It is suspected that a military aircraft was the real target.

“Of course it is desirable for the next of kin to get more clarity about the reason for the shooting of MH17”, the prosecutors said. However, it does not prevent prosecution of the four suspects in this trial.

According to the Public Prosecution Service, Igor Girkin, Sergey Dubinskiy, Oleg Pulatov and Leonid Kharchenko are the designated persons who can provide clarity about the reason for the downing of MH17, but they have not given it to this day.

The officer added that there is still an investigation into who was the crew of the buk-TELAR who pressed the button on July 17, 2014 at 4:19 PM and shot the Malaysia Airlines plane off the air.

OM explains the outcome of the main scenario of downing MH17

On the session day, it was again extensively explained how the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) came to this “main scenario”. A range of radar images, satellite data, images and witness statements lead to the conclusion of the Public Prosecution Service that a rifle missile was fired at MH17 from an agricultural field near Pervomaiskyi.

In front of alternative scenarios such as an explosion from the inside, the downing of MH17 by a fighter plane or the shooting down of the plane by the Ukrainian armed forces, according to the OM, no evidence has been found or contraindications.

Evidence for these scenarios was provided by Russia, among others, but could be refuted, according to the officers. Supplied satellite images from Russia turned out to be incorrect and this led to repeated open doubts about the intentions of the Russian Federation.

The trial will continue on Wednesday and the role of the aforementioned suspects will be discussed, among other things. It will also become clear why, according to the Public Prosecutor, the suspects are not entitled to so-called combatant immunity.
