The Provincial Council of Huesca launches a program of aid to municipal libraries to create a pioneer streaming audiovisual loan system in Aragon

Users of municipal libraries in Alto Aragon will be able to access a streaming audiovisual content platform called Efilm Huesca, with more than 14,000 titles of films, series, short films, concerts or tutorials. This initiative of the Provincial Council of Huesca consists of a call for grants that will allow the centers of the Provincial Network of Municipal Libraries of Huesca to offer this service.

The deputy for Culture Maribel de Pablo has pointed out that “This proposal arises because the audiovisual content on the network is in great demand and municipal libraries constantly seek to satisfy the needs of their users, for this reason, from the Provincial Council of Huesca we launched this pioneering program in Aragon that can mean a great step for libraries and one more incentive for the residents and users of these centers ”.

Users of the Alto Aragonese library centers will be able to access some 9,000 online cinema loans in this first phase of the project, which is experimental in nature to assess the interest it generates. It is an estimate of the quota that users will be able to enjoy during this first year and may be extended in future editions of the call. The people in charge of the municipal libraries of Alto Aragon will be able to view in real time the consumption of these audiovisual contents and the accumulated spending that their respective users have made.

“Equality and territorial structuring through new technologies is a constant for the Provincial Council of Huesca, which has been a pioneer in implementing a model plan for the extension of the wide broad that opens opportunities to rural areas”, according to Pablo who has added that “Many localities are going to be able to enjoy this audiovisual content loan program in libraries thanks to the fact that the provincial institution has brought good connectivity to 320 localities that lacked a proper network.”

The Provincial Council of Huesca In 2018, the Broadband Extension Plan began to be implemented, which has meant, so far, to implement this technology in 320 towns in the province of Huesca with a total investment of around five million euros. Some 30,000 Alto Aragonese already benefit from this type of connectivity. The main objective is to guarantee equal opportunities between those who live and work in rural areas and the inhabitants of large cities.

The new audiovisual content loan service that municipal libraries are going to offer this year means a further step for these centers that have a “great relevance”, said Pablo, in the Alto Aragonese towns to disseminate culture through their documentary catalogs , invigorate residents with activities to promote reading or book presentations and unify the territory through the Provincial Network of Municipal Public Libraries that encourages the exchange of resources, activities and information.
