the prospect of a curfew is approaching

While two departments of Nouvelle Aquitaine are now subject to a curfew, the Regional Health Agency took stock on Monday, October 26, on the Covid-19 epidemic in the region, and particularly in Vienne and Deux-Sèvres. At a time when sensitive curves take off.

France chained the contaminations records in 24 hours, for the fourth consecutive day. Between 24 and 25 October, 52,010 new positive cases were detected. The number of patients hospitalized for Covid continues to increase, now reaching 16,477 patients, including 2,584 in intensive care. 116 new deaths are also to be deplored, including one in Deux-Sèvres.

Another death in Deux-Sèvres

After a first victim already recorded last week in the department, this brings the number of deaths due to Covid to seven since the start of the school year in September and to 28 since the start of the epidemic. The incidence rate (number of positive people per 100,000 inhabitants) has tripled over the last two weeks in Deux-Sèvres, to stand at 160, thus exceeding the alert threshold, set at 150.

“In view of the situation to date in the department, we would be eligible for the situation of a curfew.

The number of hospitalizations has quadrupled in the space of a week. 25 patients, including one in intensive care, are now treated in the department’s hospitals (21 at the Niort Hospital Center, and 4 at the Inckermann polyclinic). The department also lost the ten or so intensive care beds it had at the North Deux-Sèvres Hospital, during the first wave, following the departure of an anesthetist-resuscitator. Twenty-three places in intensive care can now be mobilized for the entire department, all located in Niort.
Two nursing homes (in Vasles and Argentonnay) have been identified as sources of contamination, bringing the number of establishments concerned with positive cases to ten.
Two other clusters were also detected. The first is located in an unspecified company, and the second at ENSOA (National School of Active NCOs, in Saint-Maixent-l’Ecole), where about ten positive cases were detected there.

In Vienna, contaminations of seniors explode

It is the number of contaminations among the oldest that raises fears of the establishment of a curfew in Vienne. The number of positive cases has doubled among those over 65 in the space of a week, bringing the incidence rate for this age group to 144 per 100,000. Three weeks ago, there was no was only 22.
However, it is mainly this rate of contamination of those over 65, the most “at risk”, that the health authorities take into account when deciding whether to establish a possible curfew. The fateful threshold (of 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants) has therefore been largely reached in Vienne. But it is to be balanced with the two other criteria taken into account, which remain encouraging in the department.
The incidence noted in the entire population becomes decisive from 250 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. For now, Vienna is still far from it with a rate of 114 recorded on Friday.
As for the last criterion considered, the rate of occupancy of intensive care beds, Vienne is again relatively spared, even welcoming Covid patients from other regions. Two patients thus arrived from Lyon by plane on Friday, bringing the number of patients in intensive care at the Poitiers University Hospital to four.

Two departments of New Aquitaine, Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Haute-Vienne, have been subject to curfew since last week, bringing to 54 the number of departments which prohibit travel between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
