According to the preliminary version, the mass death of fish in the Arshan-Zelmensky reservoir in Kalmykia occurred due to a lack of oxygen in the water. About it reported the prosecutor’s office of Kalmykia.
“It has been established that this reservoir is formed from melt and rainwater. According to preliminary estimates, the fish was killed due to a lack of oxygen due to a critical drop in the water level in the reservoir, ”the message says.
The department has initiated a check on the circumstances of the fish pestilence and, based on its results, will assess compliance with the requirements of the legislation on aquatic biological resources, on the animal world and the requirements of sanitary and epidemiological legislation. The inspection also involves Rosprirodnadzor and the region’s Ministry of Natural Resources.
Local residents reported about the mass death of fish earlier in social networks. One of them published video showing the bank of the reservoir littered with dead fish. The author of the video said that the entire shore and the reservoir were “overflowing” with it. According to him, the smell of decomposition is felt at a distance of several kilometers.
