The Prolonged Consequences of Umrah Travel Restrictions Following the Detainment of Pilgrims in Saudi Arabia

Owner Umrah travel PT Naila Syafaah Mandiri Wisata (NSWM), Mahfudz Abdullah alias Abi (52), tricked the congregation into being abandoned and unable to return to RI. The Ministry of Religion has now removed PT Naila Syafaah Mandiri Wisata as the organizer of the Umrah pilgrimage (PPIU), both in the application of a computerized integrated management system for Umrah and special Hajj (Siskopatuh), Smart Umrah, and Smart Hajj.

PT NSWM is known to have 316 branches spread throughout Indonesia. Of the hundreds of branches that only 48 branches are licensed official.

Mahfudz Abdullah and his wife are suspected of collecting funds from hundreds of congregations. The police estimated that the congregation’s losses reached IDR 100 billion.

PT NSWM Revoked from the Application at the Ministry of Religion

The Ministry of Religion has now removed PT Naila Syafaah Wisata Mandiri as the organizer of the Umrah pilgrimage (PPIU) following the case.

“Since yesterday we have taken down PT NSWM from the PPIU list (Umrah Pilgrimage Organizers) in all our applications,” said the Head of Monitoring and Supervision of Umrah and Special Hajj Pilgrimage at the Ministry of Religion, Mujib Roni, Saturday (1/4).

Mujib said thus the company Of-blacklist of all Umrah applications registered with the Ministry of Religion.

“This means that it has not appeared in all applications, Siskopatuh, Smart Umrah and Smart Hajj. And we have deactivated the username and password in our (Siskopatuh) reporting system for a long time,” he said.

Ministry of Religion to Issue Decision Letter Immediately

Mujib added, Monday (3/4) next week his party will also coordinate regarding the next steps for PT NSWM. He confirmed Ministry of Religion will immediately sanction the company.

“Monday we will have a meeting with elements of the leadership and God willing, next week sanctions in the form of a Minister of Religion decision will be issued,” he added.

In this case, the police have named three suspects. Namely Mahfudz Abdulah alias Abi (52) and his wife Halijah Amin alias Bunda (48) as the owners of PT NSWM, and Hermansyah (59) as the main director of the company.

The three were charged with Article 126 in conjunction with Article 119 A of Law Number 8 of 2019 concerning the Organizing of the Hajj and Umrah Pilgrimage as amended in Article 126 of Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation with a penalty of 10 years in prison and/or a fine of IDR 10 billion.
