In a week, the annual literary festival “Prose Readings” will start, which will take place online this year. The organizers of the event promise exciting stories every evening from December 2 to 12 of the festival Homepage and “Prose Reading” on the Facebook page.

This year’s theme of “Prose Readings” is literary polyphony or literary languages. In total, more than ten different online events are expected, in which about 50 Latvian and foreign authors will participate. The festival manifesto says: “Literature has many languages ​​- literally and figuratively. The text can be translated into another language, turned into a screenplay, a drawing. It can be quoted on a commercial or in a speech by a politician. However, the text itself tends to “sprout” from another genre – photography, theater performances or compositions. In this sense, the literary process is multilingual, a tree with a deep and broad root system influenced by classics, other genres, and an equally broad crown in which other genres nest. ”

According to ŗikijat, the festival will open on December 2 at 19.00 with Ilmārs Šlāpins’ essay “Languages ​​of Literature”. Inga Ābele, Inese Zandere, Jānis Joņevs and Osvalds Zebris will take part in the readings of their latest works. independent, life.

From December 6 to 10, every day at 11.05 we will be able to listen to the reading of one writer’s latest work in the LR1 program “Kultūras rondo”, but at At 18.00 on the festival website there will be readings of the winners of the open story competition “Stories of Pandemic Time”.

December 11 at 18.00 Ilze Jansone, Guna Roze, Sergejs Moreino, Pēteris Pūrītis and Jānis Zelčāns will perform on Saturday evening. The festival will end with the prose reading prize on December 12 at 18.00.

The prose readings festival has been taking place since 1995, and since 2016 the festival has been organized by the Latvian Writers’ Union.
