The prime minister’s party – Abroad – has won the Dutch parliamentary elections

According to estimates by the public service broadcaster NOS, the PVV won around 23% of the vote and 36 out of 150 seats in the lower house of parliament.

The results, which have already been predicted, enable Rite, who has been in the chair of the Prime Minister for ten years, to take up the post of head of government for another term.

He has already stated his readiness to continue working, stating that he “has enough energy for another ten years”.

The biggest surprise was the left-wing liberal party D66, which took the second place under the leadership of Zigrīda Kaga, winning 27 seats, the initial results show.

The success of the party is explained by the popularity of the former Minister of Foreign Trade Kaga.

On Wednesday evening, Kāga has already shown interest in rejoining the Rite-led multi-party coalition, but has made it clear that the D66 would like to be joined by another party representing the so-called progressives.

Meanwhile, the right-wing populist Freedom Party, led by Gert Wilders, remains in third place, contrary to forecasts.

Of the 37 parties that ran in the elections, 17 have entered parliament, according to forecasts.

Among other things, three far-right parties will be represented in parliament, winning a total of 30 seats, significantly increasing their representation compared to the 2017 elections.

At the same time, the left parties – the Social Democrats, the Socialists and the Greens – have suffered significant losses.

The final results of the counting of votes are expected no earlier than Thursday.

This time, due to the pandemic, the voting lasted three days, but on Wednesday there was a particularly high turnout.

In total, 82% of eligible voters went to the polls, election officials report.
