The price of pork in Latvia was on average 96.5% higher in November than a year earlier

Last November, the price of pork in Latvia was on average 96.5% higher than in the corresponding month of 2021, but 4.7% lower than in October, according to data from the Market and Direct Support Department of the Ministry of Agriculture (ZM).

At the same time, the price of pork in the European Union (EU) in November 2022 was on average 54.3% higher than in November 2021. Among them, the price of pork in Germany increased by 57% during the year, in Lithuania – by 74.6%, in Denmark – by 41.6%, in Poland – by 69.3%, and in Estonia – by 38.7%.

Public data also show that pork in November was cheaper in Latvia than on average in the EU, that is, the market price of pig carcasses in the EU in November was on average 198.57 euros per 100 kilograms, while in Latvia – 197.18 euros per 100 kilograms.

At the same time, the market price of a pig carcass in Estonia last November was 192.36 euros per 100 kilograms, in Germany – 200.02 euros, in Denmark – 183.67 euros, in Poland – 200.31 euros, and in Lithuania – 181.46 euros per 100 kilograms. .

The department notes that in 2022 until September, compared to the corresponding period of 2021, the number of animals slaughtered in the EU has decreased by 4.4%, while in Latvia it has increased by 7.8%. At the same time, the amount of meat produced in the EU decreased by 5.1% in the corresponding period, while in Latvia it increased by 6.4%.

At the same time, the amount of EU imports increased by 13.6% in the ten months of 2022, including the increase in imports from Chile, but decreased by 4.2% from Switzerland and by 24.2% – from Norway.

Meanwhile, the volume of EU exports in 2022 decreased by 18.1% in ten months. Exports increased by 27.4% to Japan, by 30.8% to the Philippines and by 32.4% to South Korea. Meanwhile, the export of pig products decreased by 54% to Hong Kong and by 47% to China.

The Ministry notes that the main exporters of pig products in the world in 2022 until October were the EU, the USA, Canada and Brazil.
