The President of the Energy Regulatory Office approved energy tariffs with zero excise duty

Due to the very dynamic situation on the energy markets and the accompanying price increases, in December 2021 The Sejm passed a law reducing excise duty on fuels and electricitywhich is part of the government’s anti-inflationary shield. The act exempted electricity sold to households from January 1 to May 31, 2022.

New tariffs due to zero excise duty

“Due to the fact that in the tariffs of ex officio vendors approved by the Regulator in December 2021, the price of energy included excise tax (PLN 5 / MWh), it was necessary to take into account the later changes in the law and update the tariffs of PGE Obrót, Enea, Energa Obrót and Tauron Sprzedaż. The changes in tariffs therefore relate to the reduction of electricity prices due to the temporary exemption from excise duty. However, the rates for energy distribution did not change, “reads the statement of the Energy Regulatory Office.

“At the same time, taking into account the situation in the country and throughout Europe, where we observe an increase in energy prices, a high level of inflation and measures taken by the Government and Parliament within the framework of anti-inflationary shields, it cannot be ruled out that the excise tax exemption will be extended and will cover a longer period of 2022 r. ” – indicated further.

There will be more changes

The Office points out that the restoration of non-zero excise duty rates in the price of electricity for households will result in the necessity to change the tariffs again, which will take into account electricity prices together with excise duty, i.e. their return to the level resulting from tariffs approved by the ERO on December 17, 2021.

On December 17, 2021, the President of the Energy Regulatory Office approved tariffs for the sale of energy for four so-called ex officio sellers – from PGE, Tauron, Enea and Energa groups – and the five largest distribution companies. As a result of the changes, energy bills will increase by an average of approx. 24%. compared to 2021, i.e. by approx. PLN 21 net per month.
