The President Bulgaria Rumen Radev is categorically against the supply of weapons to Ukraine, as this means “direct involvement in the conflict.” He also stated that there is no need for a visit to Kyiv.

The statements of the President were published by the Bulgarian edition BGNES.

“A categorical “no” to the provision of military assistance to Ukraine, because this means a step towards the direct involvement of Bulgaria in this conflict. Calls for peace are disappearing, and they are being replaced by increasingly harsh rhetoric and calls for victory. If victory means self-destruction and the economic liquidation of Europe, we are rapidly moving in this direction,” Radev said.

According to the president, Bulgaria should make every effort to achieve peace as soon as possible and end the “conflict”. Radev did not use the word “war” in his comments.

“Prolonging the conflict will have catastrophic consequences in many respects. The sovereign Bulgarian position is developed in Sofia, not in Kyiv, and I don’t think there is a need to visit there,” Radev summed up.

The last statement of the president may concern the trip of the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Kirill Petkov to Ukraine. According to media statements, he went to Kyiv with a delegation to discuss military assistance to our state.

Let us recall that earlier Russia stopped sending gas to Bulgaria. The reason was the refusal to pay for supplies in rubles, which would be a violation of EU sanctions against the Russian Federation.
