This Saturday, September 14, at 5:00 p.m., the auditorium of the National Library of Congress will be the setting for the presentation of the collection of children’s stories “Guardians of the Night””. This initiative, the result of a scientific outreach project, seeks to bring children and young people closer to the fascinating world of nocturnal animals in our country.
The collection, written by Maria Irma Betzel and illustrated by Lorena Barriosconsists of four books that fuse science and literature. Each story, narrated in Spanish and Guaraní, invites us to accompany various nocturnal animals on their adventures, learning about their characteristics, habits and the important role they play in Paraguayan ecosystems.
The presentation will feature the participation of Artisans of the Wordwho will bring the stories to life through oral narrations. In addition, the books will be distributed free of charge and will be available for download on the website of the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences (FACEN) of the UNA.

A multidisciplinary project with a clear objective
Behind this initiative is an interdisciplinary team of scientists, artists and communicators, who worked hard to create quality educational materials accessible to all. The project, funded by the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT)seeks not only to transmit scientific knowledge, but also to foster respect and appreciation for the biodiversity of our country.
“We want to show children and young people that science can be fun and exciting.“says María Elena Torres, one of the biologists involved in the project.Nocturnal animals are often misunderstood and feared, but they are essential to the balance of our ecosystems.“, he added.
Beyond the books
In addition to the publication of the stories, the project includes the realization of scientific dissemination workshops in schools of Central, Paraguay and Ñeembucú, including educational institutions that work with people with hearing loss. Audiovisual materials will also be produced in Spanish, Guaraní and Paraguayan Sign Languageto ensure the accessibility of the contents.
